TN Ghana has generously contributed GHS 10,000 and GHS 1,000 worth of airtime to support this year’s Kente Festival, set to take place from October 14 to 20, 2024, in Bonwire, Ejisu Municipality, Ashanti Region.
This donation underscores MTN’s ongoing partnership with the Bonwire community and its commitment to celebrating African heritage.
During the donation presentation, Mr. Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for General Trade at MTN Kumasi, emphasized the importance of cultural festivals in defining African identity. He remarked, “MTN is an African company, and our culture shapes who we are. Festivals like this are integral to our identity.”
Amoh elaborated on the company’s support for the festival, providing refreshments, cash, and airtime to ensure the kingmakers remain connected during the celebrations. He also noted the significance of expanding market access for Kente producers through MTN’s platforms.
The Chief of Bonwire, Nana Bobie Ansah, highlighted the festival’s crucial role in honoring the Kente cloth’s origins, which trace back to the 16th century. He warmly invited MTN to the grand durbar on October 19, where a vibrant cultural showcase of Kente cloth will take place, alongside messages from dignitaries and a dinner celebration.
The Bonwire Kente Festival is known for its lively array of activities celebrating Ghanaian culture, including exhibitions, community clean-ups, races, musical concerts, a beauty contest, and various sporting events, all aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
