Actor-turned-politician, John Dumelo has reacted to the passage of the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023 into law.

This will result in the decriminalisation of the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes.

Mr Dumelo, in a post on Twitter, called this decision a defining moment in Ghana’s history.

He noted that as a farmer he is excited to add the cultivation of cannabis to his numerous farming venture, which includes the cultivation of ginger, tubers, grains and poultry farming.

“I’m very excited Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which seeks to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes. This is a defining moment in Ghana’s history,” Mr Dumelo wrote.

He added “as a farmer, adding the cultivation of cannabis to my portfolio for medicinal industrial purposes is definitely something I’m looking forward to. God bless Ghana.”

This comes after Parliament, on Wednesday, passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023 into law.

The passing grants the Interior Ministry authority to issue licences for the cultivation of cannabis which has not more than 0.3% utility content on dry weight spaces for industrial or medicinal purposes.
