The much-anticipated largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries to elect Presidential and Parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections chances today.

The Presidential primaries will be held in 276 constituencies across the country.

While the Parliamentary primaries will take place in 212 constituencies.

47 Parliamentary candidates have been declared unopposed.

The centre of attraction for the primaries would have been the Presidential candidate race between former President Mahama, Dr Kwabena Duffour and Kwadwo Bonsu.

But with just less than 24 hours for the Primaries to take place, Dr Duffour stepped down.

Addressing a presser on Friday evening, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana stated that his decision is based on his grievances with the processes surrounding the party’s upcoming primaries; especially the voters register.

According to him, the exercise has been marred by a lot of irregularities; a situation which has not been resolved by the leadership of the party.

Dr Duffour earlier filed an interlocutory injunction on the primaries on Tuesday, 9/05/2023,

The campaign team of the former Finance Minister raised concerns about the credibility of the party’s Voter Register for the election.

But Dr Duffour on Friday, 12/05/2023 withdrew the case from court to pave the way for the election.

A member of the NDC, Edgar Asamoah Boateng who also prayed a High Court order to prevent the party from proceeding with its primaries withdrew the case.

Edgar Asamoah Boateng on Friday applied for the suspension of the May 13 Presidential and Parliamentary primaries over what he sees as a lack of a voters’ register being provided to his representatives, as well as to all other aspirants, including presidential contenders.

The NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia addressing the press ahead of the primaries, commended a Presidential aspirant, Dr Duffour for withdrawing the injunction he filed from the court.

Asiedu Nketia described the decision by Dr Duffour as statesmanship.

He said the party will deal with all illegal challenges.

The NDC Chairman affirmed that the party will ensure an unbiased posture throughout the election process.
