Flagbearer aspirant for the governing New Patriotic Party and Member of Parliament for the people of Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has clarified the misrepresentation in the video that he was caught alleging that members of the NPP were looting huge sums of money like there was no tomorrow.
In a recent campaign meet up in the Ashanti Region, a video of the maverick politician was seen with him stating categorically that some members of the party were allegedly looting huge sums of Ghanaian Cedis and buying mansions.
The video and statement by the Member of Parliament has since raised controversies and reactions from Ghanaians both Party members and opposition party members.
In a response to that, Mr Agyapong noted that, undeniably the video circulating was him in a meeting with some party communicators in the Ashanti Region but the portion of the video circulating is a misrepresentation of the whole conversation that ensued when the meeting was on going.
He mentioned that, he had met with the party communicators to discuss issues that was wrangling the party up and how best communicators can project the unprecedented achievements of the Akufo-Addo led government.
“At the event I lamented the fact that our communicators were letting the party down and that every government would have its fair share of corruption cases, especially in 8 years, but because of one or two bad cases which the authorities were handling and in a transparent manner as it should be, we have, sadly allowed the ruthless opposition propaganda machinery, the mass media and the social media to create the deadly impression that NPP was looting as if there was no tomorrow”, he stated.
He further stated his unflinching belief in the Akufo-Addo led government and advised that communicators of the party should not be withered by the lies and propaganda of the opposition parties.
He stressed that, the part of the video that was highly circulated was done by some people to purposely carve a certain negative niche to his brand and also bring into disrepute the achievement of the NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo.
“I wish to stress the point that the offending video was culled from a private meeting with some communicators in Kumasi, Ashanti Region over the weekend, and edited to purposely create disaffection towards me, Ken Ohene Agyapong and the Akufo-Addo government into disrepute”, he added.
According to him, he still remains a staunch and committed member of the NPP and shared hopes of leading the party to break their eight together with the rank and file of the party against their largest opposition party, NDC.
