The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive Committee (NEC) has set a new date for the conduct of the party’s parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs.
The new date for the conduct of the primaries is January 20, 2024, according to a release issued by the committee and signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
It noted that nomination shall open on December 20, 2023, and close on December 22, 2023.
“The Party anticipates the full cooperation of all stakeholders in the conduct of the primaries and wishes all aspiring candidates the best of luck,” it said.
Earlier, the party announced the scheduled conduct of its Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference for Saturday, December 2, 2023, to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has no parliamentary representation (i.e. orphan constituencies).
The NEC, which took the decision during a meeting, stated that vetting of aspiring parliamentary candidates in these constituencies shall take place in the various regional capitals from Tuesday, November 14, 2023, to Thursday, November 16, 2023.
“Regional Executive Committees are hereby directed to communicate to their respective constituencies and aspiring parliamentary candidates the dates, time and venue for vetting,” it said.
It however indicated that the Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference shall take place in all orphan constituencies with the exception of the Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central constituencies.
