Ghana’s political landscape is in mourning today following the passing of Dr. Saanbaye Basilide Kangbere, Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reports indicate Dr. Kangbere died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at his home in Accra. While the party has yet to receive official confirmation from the family, Upper West Regional Secretary Tanko Dauda Daniel confirmed the news to ChannelOne News.

Dr. Kangbere, 76, reportedly battled kidney problems for some time. He was a dedicated figure in the NPP, having secured re-election as Upper West Regional Chairman in 2022. He defeated his main challenger, Alhaji Mahama Toyina, by a narrow margin, demonstrating his strong support base within the party.
