Oheneba Twi Akumfi Ameyaw (aka Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi) writes on MEKO BONO:

Nananom,
Bono Adehyee

It is with deepest regret that I am communicating with you at this forum in absentia.

For this edition of Meko Bono, I had vowed to participate in all the sessions. But man proposes.

Nananom, at this gathering, we, your sons and daughters, are going to learn a lot from you as sources of energy to enable us to renew the confidence needed to recognize ourselves as Bonos.

Geographical separations are irrelevant; norshould political differences when we deal with one another as Bonos.

Magyanom, you hold the key to our unity.Earlier generations have recognized and respected our traditional entities.

Considerable confusion seems to be rearing its head in a number of areas as though as a people we didn’t cherish the peace we enjoyed.

We shouldn’t forget our history. I humbly recommend to Agyanom to sponsor scholars to carry out serious research into our history and encourage the youth to show deep interest in it.

At our festivals, space should be provided for our our elders to the youth of our history.

I suggest that future festivals should involve the Denkyiras, whose 150 years sojourn at Nkyiraa is a historical fact.
A final word, Nananom.

Where from this tendency where individuals “apply” for the status of Amanhene?

Finally,I wish to congratulate Nananom for participating fully in the programme.
