Premier League Unveils Dates for Summer and Winter Transfer Windows1 min read
The Premier League has announced the dates for the forthcoming summer and winter transfer windows for the 2024/25 season.
Starting from June 14 and closing on August 30 at 11pm, the initial transfer window will have a slight tweak this time, wrapping up on the last Friday of August instead of the previous September 1 deadline.
In a bid to synchronize with other major European leagues like the EFL, Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, and Ligue 1, discussions have led to a unified approach in closing dates. Both the summer and winter windows will now shut on August 30 and February 3, respectively.
The winter transfer window will kick off on New Year’s Day and run until February 3, giving clubs a mid-season opportunity to strengthen their squads.
Notably, the previous January transfer window witnessed a decline in permanent transfers, with just £112 million ($143 million) spent across the Premier League. Out of 28 signings, 13 were loan deals, and a considerable number of clubs chose not to make any acquisitions.
Despite the Premier League’s reputation for substantial spending, hitting £2.5 billion ($3.1 billion) in transfers across the previous season’s two windows, clubs now face the looming prospect of points deductions for breaches of profit and sustainability regulations, which could influence their future transfer strategies.
