The Chief Information Officer of MTN Ghana, Bernard Acquah, emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital age, urging individuals to take the issue seriously.
He highlighted that many people remain unaware of the risks and have become easy targets for cybercriminals.
Acquah spoke during the MTN Bright Conversations Cybersecurity Month event on October 28, 2024, themed “Navigating the Digital World Safely: Awareness, Action, Assurance.”
The event featured a live studio audience and focused on raising awareness about online safety.
He cautioned against sharing personal information indiscriminately, stating that such actions increase vulnerability to cyber threats.
“It’s essential to protect your identity online and on social media to shield yourself from potential attacks,” Acquah advised.
To help individuals safeguard their identities, he recommended several practical measures, such as turning off Wi-Fi when in public spaces.
He warned that providing any form of identification can put individuals at risk, as criminals often exploit such information for their gain.
“For added security, enable ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ and adjust your ‘Privacy Settings,'” he reiterated, underscoring the need for proactive steps to ensure online safety.
