Provide Special Incentives To Private Universities To Offer Quality Education—Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh.<span class="wtr-time-wrap after-title"><span class="wtr-time-number">3</span> min read</span>

 

Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Ghana Civil Service has implored government to explore avenues that could provide support to private universities such as the Christ Apostolic University College (CAUC) who are determined to provide quality education.

Speaking at the 9th Graduation and Matriculation ceremony of the Kwadaso based CAUC last Saturday on the theme; “Delivering the Public Good, Goveenment, Private University Partnership In Tertiary Education”, the Head of Civil Service noted that a critical review of the programmes offered at the University gives its products holistic education.

Dr Darkoh said courses such as Business Administration, Technology,  Theology and Education that are offered in CAUC to students admitted gives them competitive edge over the students from other private universities.

“A critical review of the programmes you offer in this University gives you a holistic education package to all students admitted here and gives them a competitive edge over other students from other private universities”, Dr Aggrey-Darkoh stated.

Details:
Dr Aggrey-Darkoh said the 2022/2023 Statistical Report on Tertiary Education by GTEC indicated that 422, 583 enrolled in public universities in Ghana 🇬🇭.
This, he explained was significantly higher compared to other Tertiary educational institutions.

However, he noted that Private universities and colleges were ranked in the second position with 69, 629 enrollments, adding that enrollment in private universities had greatly increased in the country since 2019 as the year recorded 64, 870 students.

“The statistics indicate the significant role of private universities such as CAUC are playing in bridging the Tertiary Education gap in Ghana and must be commended as such”, the Head of Civil Service intimated.

Charge on Government:
Dr Aggrey-Darkoh charged Government to support private universities with incentives to allow them to expand access to education since they provide larger number of students the opportunity to pursue tertiary education.

He also asked that support services be provided to private universities to enhance educational quality since these outfits bring innovative teaching methods, advanced technology and modern curricula to the educational landscape.

The Head of Civil Service also called on government to support private universities to foster innovation and research as well as to create employment opportunities for their products so they could contribute to the economic growth and development of Ghana.

“As head of the Civil Service i am particularly proud of the steps we are taking to improve public service delivery to support the growth of our country. Whilst we sharpen competences and skills of already existing work force, we are adhering to the principles of meritocracy to engage some of our finest brains from our educational institutions”, Dr Darkoh posited.

Chancellor:
The Chancellor of CAUC, Apostle Samuel Amponsah Frimpong Esq commended the University Council, management and staff for their dedication in grooming and shaping students at the University.

He urged the graduating and matriculating students to be good ambassadors of the university since they carried the reputation of CAUC with them anywhere they find themselves.

Acting President of CAUC:
Addressing the gathering, Professor Kwaku Ahenkora, Acting President of CAUC stressed that the University was committed to fulfilling its vision.

“CAUC wants to be a distinguished seat of learning for its academic quality that emphasizes integrity, intellectual achievement and employability”, he stated.

Best Students:
With a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0, Andrew Alvin Appiah was named the Overall Best Student For Degree after offering B.ED Basic Education.
