Stay Focused, We’ll Win – Bawumia3 min read
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to be distracted by events but remain focused on the objective of winning next year’s elections.
Dr. Bawumia, who spoke to party faithfuls on the sidelines of a visit to a limited voter registration centre in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, said the signs are clear that the party would record a remarkable victory in the December 2024 poll, hence the need to work hard and stay focused.
“I am happy that you have come out to meet me today for this important national exercise. It tells me that the party is very alive and very strong,” he stated.
“One of the things that we need to know as a party is that we are going to win the 2024 election. Do not have any doubt in your mind. We will have to work hard, no doubt we will have to work hard, but it is possible to ‘break the 8’.
“We are going to break the 8, and we will need all of your efforts for us to break the 8. Let us keep focus as a party. Don’t be distracted by events. Stay focused on the main task, which is to break the 8.
“Let nobody distract us. We are going to win, so let nobody distract you. Focus, focus, focus on breaking the 8 in 2024. It is possible!” he declared.
The Vice President underscored the importance of the limited voter registration exercise to the country’s democratic growth, and commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for satisfactorily discharging its duties so far.
“It is very important that we get everyone who is eligible to vote, to come and register to vote in the upcoming District Assembly elections and the General Elections in 2024. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to register,” he emphasised.
Dr. Bawumia, who has also visited centres in the Greater Accra and Central regions, on Saturday, September 23 suspended his nationwide engagement with NPP delegates ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, to enable the party concentrate fully on the registration exercise.
… As Kojo Poku Endorses Him
Meanwhile, one of the contestants in the recent Special Delegates’ Conference, Kojo Poku Nsafoa, has endorsed the candidature of Dr. Bawumia.
This was when he visited the Vice President, who is leading in almost every poll ahead of the elections, at his campaign office in Accra.
In a brief address, Kojo Poku was confident that when given the nod, Dr. Bawumia will be the best person to win the 2024 general elections for the NPP.
He also stressed the belief that when eventually elected as President of Ghana, the youth will have hope.
He said this will create an enabling environment for the full realisation of their potentials and aspirations.
With his out of the box thinking abilities, Nsafoa was confident Bawumia will create innovative ideas and policies for Ghana to develop rapidly and with his digitalisation agenda, Ghana will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other nations across the world.
Kojo Poku has indicated his preparedness to go all out to campaign for Dr. Bawumia, since in his own words “he is the grassroots favourite and Ghana’s best choice for election 2024.”
His endorsement comes ahead of the crucial November 4, 2023 National Delegates Congress to elect a flagbearer for the party.
This comes on the heels of similar endorsements by former supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who not only stepped down from the race but also resigned from the party amidst wild allegations which has since been shot down by leadership of the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia is expected to resume his campaign activities sometime next week after suspending it to enable him monitor the ongoing limited voter registration exercise which seeks to register potential first time voters who have attained 18 years and above onto the electoral roll.
