Tourism Ministry Holds Training Programme For Drivers In Kumasi 2 min read
A training programme on tourism has been held for some drivers in Kumasi at the KNUST Commercial Area.
The programme organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture through the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), is to conscientise drivers on their role in promoting travel and tourism in Ghana.
The Projects Manager at the GTDC outlined the objectives of the initiative.
She said the programme is geared towards drivers in the tourism sector whose roles in promoting tourism have been identified. These drivers are considered as the front liners who meet tourists when they arrive in the country.
“This project is going to help propagate the good news of the tourism sector, the prospects and everything. If tourists arrive they are to tell them about the potentials we have that they should visit,” she said.
According to her, this is also going out to 3000 drivers for the first phase they are embarking on and they hope to make it bigger in the future.
“Once we have done this, we are also rewarding them of their time, they are going to be certified so they are going to be given certificates of participation, they are going to be given some key rings and then bumper stickers for their cars and t-shirts,” Lauretta added.
They will later roll out the next phase which will make them more equipped for the project.
Earlier on, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, in an interview stated that the exercise started last year in Accra and was optimistic that it will consequently help boost the tourism drive being championed by the government.
