The acting Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Awelana Addah says the bane of Ghana’s politics is the winner-takes-all system.

The winner-takes-all system of politics is one in which all the candidates who do not emerge victorious in an election receive no authorized role in the politico-legal system of the country, irrespective of the number of votes they obtained in the election and the voices of the citizens they represent.

According to Awelana Addah, the winner-takes-all syndrome is retrogressing the country.

Contributing to the ‘Can Ghana Work?’ discussion on Ama Ghana Morning Show, she wailed that from 1992 till date Ghana has practiced a winner-takes-all system.

According to the acting Executive Director of GII, another factor which has hindered the country’s development is monetization in politics.

She bemoaned that one who is financially deficient is neglected and has no space in elections.
