Woman And Child Kidnapped In Haiti Freed Unharmed1 min read
Christian humanitarian group El Roi Haiti said Wednesday that Alix Dorsainvil and her child have been safely released by their kidnappers.
The statement did not provide an explanation for why or how the two were released.
El Roi said it would continue to release further details on its website while stating Dorsainvil and her child would not speak on the situation immediately.
“There is still much to process and to heal from in this situation, so we are asking that no attempts be made to contact Alix or her family at this time,” the group said.
The New Hampshire woman and child were kidnapped July 29 near the El Roi campus in Port au Prince.
Americans were warned by a U.S. State Department travel advisory July 28 that all non-emergency personnel and their families should leave Haiti.
U.S. Consular Affairs said travelers are sometimes followed and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving Port au Prince International airport and carjackers also attack private vehicles in heavy traffic.
Tuesday the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince closed after gunfire was heard nearby.
