YEA Deserves Support To Roll Out More Modules—-Chief Of Staff Admits.2 min read
Hon Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Ghana’s Chief of Staff at the Presidency says she was convinced that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) needed more support from government to enable it function more efficiently and effectively by creating job openings for the youth.
Addressing the launch of the Garment and Apparel Training and Employment module by the Agency in Kumasi on Monday, the Chief of Staff said “so far the YEA has exceeded targets and creating more openings for the employment of the youth”.
She therefore noted that the Agency deserved the needed funding that would enable it scale up and add more modules to its current ones.
“I am happy to see the YEA offer such opportunities for our youth and i must admit they need more funding to roll out more modules such as we are launching today so that those in hair dressing and other artisanal areas can access training and capital for start up”, Madam Frema stated.
Labour Minister:
Hon Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, Minister of Labour and Employment Relations commended the YEA for coming out with innovative ideas.
These modules and initiatives, the Minister has helped government to create openings for employment for the mass of the youth.
Government, the Minister dislosed would under the YEA and other allied agencies launch some other modules for those in other artisanal training and apprenticeship.
YEA Chief Executive:
Kofi Baah Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer of the YEA speaking earlier at the launch, disclosed that the Garment and Apparel Training and Employment module is intended to partner with 500 beneficiary micro fashion outfits to train 5 persons each at their outfits for one year.
These 500 outfits, he noted would receive 10, 000 each for providing their platform and for the training for these persons (youth).
He intimated that these youth in turn will also earn 500gh as stipends while they learn the trade.
Macro companies, he mentioned have have also been partnered to roll out training for ten persons each.
“These macro companies would earn between 100, 000 and 200, 000 from YEA for this partnership and these outfits as part of the contract would offer permanent jobs for those they train after the programme”, the CEO stated.
