NACOC intercepts GH¢100m tramadol shipment at Accra Int’l Airport, three arrested

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a shipment containing approximately five million tramadol tablets with an estimated street value of GH¢100 million at the Accra International Airport, arresting three suspects in connection with the attempted importation.

The seizure was made during an intelligence-led operation after NACOC officers intercepted the consignment at the airport.

In a statement, the Commission said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit drug trafficking networks and protect public health and national security.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the shipment was intended for distribution within Ghana and possibly other countries in the sub-region.

NACOC believes the consignment may be linked to a wider drug trafficking syndicate and said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the operation.

The intercepted tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence while forensic analysis and documentary examinations continue.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that all persons involved in the illicit trade are brought to justice.

It also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations, in accordance with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
