A new baseline longitudinal poll by Global InfoAnalytics has found the race to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general election remains highly competitive, with National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson tied among voters.
According to the poll, both Mr Asiedu Nketia and Dr Ato Forson secured 31% support among respondents, while Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu placed third with 15%.
Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang followed with 9%, while Chief of Staff Julius Debrah polled 8%. Eric Opoku and Joshua Alabi each recorded 2%.
Global InfoAnalytics said among committed voters, Mr Asiedu Nketia holds a narrow lead over Dr Ato Forson by just 17 votes, a margin the research firm attributed largely to support from New Patriotic Party (NPP) voters.
Among respondents who identified as NPP supporters, Mr Asiedu Nketia led with 29%, followed by Haruna Iddrisu with 22% and Dr Ato Forson with 20%.
Within the NDC’s support base, however, the contest remained statistically close, with Mr Asiedu Nketia polling 36%, Dr Ato Forson 33% and Haruna Iddrisu 12%.
The poll showed that among floating voters, Dr Ato Forson emerged as the preferred candidate with 35%, ahead of Mr Asiedu Nketia with 22% and Haruna Iddrisu with 17%.
For respondents who did not disclose their political affiliation, Mr Asiedu Nketia and Dr Ato Forson were tied on 29% each, while Haruna Iddrisu recorded 20%.
Among supporters of other political parties, Dr Ato Forson led with 29%, followed by Mr Asiedu Nketia with 24% and Julius Debrah with 17%.
The findings point to a closely contested internal race within the governing NDC as the party’s possible contenders for the 2028 presidential election begin to attract public attention.
