NPP WOMEN’S WING DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ALLEGED OBUASI SECTECH ABUSE VICTIMS

Story by: Mabel Acquah-Fynn

The NPP’s women organizer, Mavis Hawa Koomson is calling for justice for female students allegedly sexually abused at Obuasi Senior High Technical School in a peaceful demonstration staged in Obuasi.

Speaking during a demonstration to press home demands for justice for the alleged raped victims of Obuasi SHTS, Madam Koomson said they would continue to demand justice for the alleged victims until the appropriate institutions complete their work. She called on the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Education Service and other relevant authorities to ensure a transparent investigation and to keep the public informed of developments.

Madam Koomson further called for stronger child protection measures in schools, including confidential reporting systems, counselling services and stricter safeguarding policies to protect students from abuse. She urged Ghanaians to support efforts aimed at creating safer learning environments for children.

The demonstrators marched through the principal streets of Obuasi carrying placards bearing messages such as “Justice for Obuasi Girls,” “Protect Our Children, Not Predators,” “Silence Protects Abusers,” “No Child Should Learn in Fear,” and “Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied.” The protesters demanded accountability over the allegations against the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, who is currently under investigation. They maintained that the matter should be treated as a national concern that transcends political affiliation.

The demonstration follows allegations that the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School sexually abused several students. The allegations remain under investigation, and the headmaster has denied any wrongdoing. The Ghana Education Service has interdicted him pending the outcome of investigations.
