Ahiagbah Refutes Claim That Some NPP MPs Have Been Targetted For Being Vocal Against Govt

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has refuted the claim that some sitting New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) who were vocal against the government are being targeted to be pushed out by the establishment in the upcoming parliamentary primary,

This was after opposition Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye made the claim.

Mr Vanderpuye mentioned Subin lawmaker Eugene Boakye Antwi and Asante-Akim North legislator Andy Appiah-Kubi, who were vocal in calling for the sacking of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as examples of the MPs being pushed out.

These individuals are being targeted by the establishment,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 while commenting on the exit of the Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and the other lawmakers who have decided not to seek reelection.

However, Mr Ahiagbah replied to him on the same show “The idea that some MPs are being targeted is not true. The space is competitive, so if you are afraid of some contest you can’t make that claim.

The NPP closed nominations on December 25 for parliamentary aspirants in constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).

The election is slated for January 27, 2024.

This is the next stage of the party’s quest to have parliamentarians in all the 275 constituencies. It was preceded by the successful hosting of primaries in what the party calls orphan constituencies on December 2.

At the close of nominations on Christmas day, some experienced members of the party did not pick forms. They have thus, voluntarily decided to end their parliamentary careers.
