Ajax Sack Coach Maurice Steijn After Poor Start To Season1 min read
The 49-year-old coach had joined the club from Sparta Rotterdam in June on a three-year contract.
However, a disappointing start to the season saw Ajax, the 36-time Dutch champions, languishing in the second-bottom position of the Eredivisie table, with only one win in seven league games.
In light of these unfavourable results, Steijn and the club’s management decided to go their separate ways after holding two meetings on Monday.
Assistant coach Hedwiges Maduro will step in as the caretaker boss as Ajax looks to regroup and improve their performance.
During Steijn’s brief tenure, Ajax managed to secure only two victories out of 11 games across all competitions. The experienced coach has also held managerial positions at ADO Den Haag, VVV-Venlo, and NAC Breda.
