This feat has been described by the President as unprecedented.
Some of the notable projects completed include the dualization of the 22km Ho main road, the 30km Have to Kpando road, and the upgrading of the Golokwati-Wli road. Additionally, the 15km Asikuma junction to Ho road has been resealed, the 30km Frankadua to Adidome road has been re-graveled, and the 17.8km Matse-Klave and Lume Atsiame-Avetokoe roads have been resurfaced.
Other road projects completed include the asphaltic overlay on 15km of town roads in Hohoe, the bitumen surfacing of various feeder roads, the upgrading of Klefe town roads, and ongoing projects such as the Ho By-Pass dualization and the upgrading of selected roads in Ketu South.
President Akufo-Addo made this announcement during a grand durbar held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, to commemorate the 2023 edition of the Hogbetsotso festival in the Anlo State of the Volta region.
The President also highlighted the significant improvements made on the Eastern Corridor Roads.
When he assumed office, only 135km of the roads were in good condition, accounting for 27% of the total length.
However, as of the end of 2022, this had increased to 366 kilometers, representing 74% of the Corridor in good condition.
This improvement has greatly enhanced the movement of goods and people along the corridor.
Furthermore, the President announced the cancellation of contracts awarded to contractors working on various roads in the region due to their failure to complete the projects.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways will now re-package these contracts for re-award, while the Ghana Highway Authority’s mobile maintenance unit will carry out emergency maintenance on critical sections of the affected roads.
President Akufo-Addo also revealed that the government has secured funding of US$89 million from the African Development Bank for the construction of the Asutsuare Junction – Volivo road, Dufor Adidome- Asikuma Junction Road, Asutsuare Junction – Aveyime road, and two interchanges at Dufor Adidome and Asikuma Junction. Procurement processes are underway, and work is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024.
This accomplishment by President Akufo-Addo showcases the government’s commitment and progress in improving the infrastructure and transportation network in the Volta region.
