Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Head of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shed light on why John Mahama, the Flagbearer of the NDC, has pledged to revisit the corruption investigation involving former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecillia Abena Dapaah, should he win the upcoming general elections.

In a tweet from his official Twitter handle, Mr. Mahama declared, “My government will reopen investigations into alleged acts of corruption and graft in the Cecilia Dapaah case.”

This statement comes in response to recent developments where the Attorney General’s office advised against the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) continuing its money laundering probe into Dapaah’s finances due to insufficient evidence.

The Attorney General’s decision followed a request from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for EOCO to investigate potential money laundering linked to over $1 million found at Dapaah’s residence. However, subsequent scrutiny found inadequate evidence to support money laundering charges.

During an appearance on the Ama Ghana Morning Show with Nana Kwabena Ampratwum on Friday, May 3, 2024, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe emphasized that President Akufo-Addo had pledged zero tolerance for corruption in his administration.

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe highlighted the Cecillia Dapaah case as a significant example of what he called a “smoking gun.”

“If a Minister responsible for sanitation is found with such a large sum of money under her bed, what about other ministers, such as the Education Minister?” he questioned.

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe disclosed that Mahama’s commitment to reopening the investigation stems from Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s dismissal of the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng’s claims of money laundering as unfounded.
