Ghana’s Digitisation Agenda Shouldn’t Be Seen As A Political Position - Ebenezer Asante

The Vice-President of markets at the MTN Group, Ebenezer Twum Asante has said Ghanaians must see the digitisation agenda of the government in a bipartisan way and not a political position.

Asante said Africa cannot continue to do things in the old way and expect any different result hence the need to embrace technology to advance trade within the continent.

Speaking at a panel discussion at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on Thursday at the Peduase Presidential Lodge in Aburi, the vice-president of the MTN Group said, “That is why the examples in Ghana that we are beginning to see the push towards digitization should not just be taken as a political position.”

“It should be taken as something that we need collectively in a very bipartisan manner for the forward march of this country because if we continue to trade both within Ghana and across the continent in the same old order then we are not going anywhere,” Asante added.

“Digitisation should be able to enable productivity in Africa. For us to be part of that distinctive global trade to capture top value we need technology to be able to do that,” the vice-president of markets at the MTN Group said.

He said e-commerce is showing Africa that when it comes to technology there are no barriers adding that “It is about time [for the enablement of technology] for us to allow the issues of sovereignty that is leading to closed borders to give way.”

The three-day event ends on Saturday 27 January 2024 and will have as its overarching focus the need to propose concrete measures which will lead to Africans achieving prosperity for the African continent.

The event is under the theme, “Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value and Trade”
