The donation was made possible following the intervention of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), and it’s to help KATH to properly deal with huge garbage it generates daily.

The Kumasi Mayor, Sam Pyne, who presented the dustbins, said it was an open secret that, KATH, considering its big nature, generates a lot of garbage.

“I am aware of the volume of waste at KATH and being a facility dear to my heart, I decided to present these 50 pieces of dustbins to them to manage the waste,” he said.

According to him, the Ministry of Local Government presented dustbins to the KMA, and he also decided to donate 50 dustbins to KATH.

Sam Pyne also disclosed that the assembly has plans to support KATH again with additional dustbins to enable the hospital effectively deal with the waste they generate.

The KMA, he said, would periodically assess the situations at KATH and other institutions in the city and supply them with dustbins when it takes delivery of dustbins in future.

According to him, the KMA is currently distributing some of the dustbins to some selected Senior High Schools (SHS) and outfits in Kumasi to help improve sanitation.

“The KMA is committed to providing these dustbins to institutions and other state facilities to ensure they are able to deal with the waste they collect,” the Mayor narrated.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, on behalf of the hospital, lauded the KMA, especially Sam Pyne, for the kind gesture.

According to him, Sam Pyne has shown keen interest in the affairs of KATH since he assumed office as mayor, adding that KATH had been supported by KMA during his reign.

“This donation of dustbins by Sam Pyne clearly shows the kind of heart he has for us and the commitment to ensure we work to deal with sanitation issues at KATH,” he said.
