"Reflect on History" - Nana Obiri Boahen to NPP Members Contemplating Independent Candidacy

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned party members considering running as independent candidates in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen emphasized the importance of recalling the benefits they’ve gained from their affiliation with the party.

His remarks come in the wake of former NPP Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, announcing his intention to contest the upcoming by-election as an independent candidate.

Mr Owusu Aduomi’s decision stems from concerns over the NPP’s handling of issues regarding the delegates’ album, which he perceives as compromising party integrity and fairness.

Addressing the situation in an interview, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen urged Aduomi and others to remember the advantages they’ve enjoyed within the party.

He highlighted Aduomi’s three terms as an MP for Ejisu and his previous role as a deputy minister, underscoring the contributions made by individuals like him to the party.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen expressed disappointment over perceived neglect by the Akufo-Addo’s administration, noting exceptions such as former President John Agyekum Kufour’s ministerial appointment.

He called for restraint from NPP members and supporters, discouraging insults directed at Mr Owusu Aduomi and others opting for independent candidacy.

Furthermore, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen clarified his stance regarding factions within the party, stating his support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid and expressing concern over internal conflicts.

He emphasized his dedication to promoting Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy and stressed his unwavering commitment to the NPP, citing his past support for prominent party figures regardless of ethnicity.
