Chief Inspector under probe over alleged rental of Asafo structures to sex workers

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into allegations that a Chief Inspector stationed in the region owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB in Kumasi.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, the Command said the officer is alleged to have owned the structures and rented them out to commercial sex workers.
The Police Command said it is treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserve and has begun investigations to establish the facts surrounding the claims.
“The Command assures the public that updates on the outcome of the investigations will be communicated as the process progresses,” the statement said.
The probe follows allegations by the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, that some police officers own unauthorised structures at Asafo which have allegedly been used for prostitution and the sale of illegal drugs.
The Mayor made the claims after a demolition exercise carried out by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Wednesday, July 8, at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building.
According to him, some of the structures pulled down during the exercise were allegedly owned by police officers and had been converted into centres for illicit activities.
