A gold buying company in Obuasi, BAWA ROCK LIMITED has presented sewing machines, business equipment and an amount of GH¢1.5 million in support to the Obuasi Municipal Assembly for distribution to victims affected by the recent Obuasi Town Hall fire outbreak.
The donation follows an appeal by the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, who called on corporate organisations, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support traders and artisans whose businesses and livelihoods were destroyed by the devastating fire.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of BAWA ROCK LTD, Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Mr. Eric Adei Boateng said the company responded to the Assembly’s appeal to help the affected traders recover from the losses they suffered and rebuild their businesses.
The support package, which is expected to benefit about 300 victims, with 108 apprentices, each receive a Butterfly sewing machine together with GH¢500. Master craftspersons also received industrial sewing machines, embroidery machines and overlock machines, with each machine accompanied by GH¢5,000. In addition, 30 shop owners received GH¢20,000 each, while 10 container owners received GH¢5,000 each.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin thanked BAWA ROCK LTD for the timely intervention, describing it as a major relief for traders and artisans affected by the fire outbreak.
She assured the victims that reconstruction of the demolished Obuasi Town Hall is expected to be completed within four months, after which they will be able to return to continue their businesses. In the meantime, she encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the machines and financial support they had received to support themselves and their families.
A master craftsperson who benefited from the donation expressed appreciation to BAWA ROCK LTD for the support, saying the intervention would help them get back to work after losing their equipment in the fire.
An apprentice also thanked BAWA ROCK LTD for the assistance, describing the donation as timely support that would enable beneficiaries to continue their training and earn a living.
