In an exclusive announcement, Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah has revealed that the long-awaited completion of the Kumasi International Airport is finally a reality, with a slated commissioning date of May 10th, 2024.

Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah shared that the inauguration ceremony will witness the presence of esteemed figures including President Nana Addo Dunkwa Akuffo Addo and Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, alongside other notable dignitaries.

During his appearance on the Ama Ghana Morning Show on Time FM, Hon. Osei-Mensah emphasized that the airport’s readiness signifies a significant milestone, enabling both domestic and international flights to operate seamlessly in Kumasi. He highlighted that the management of the facility has been entrusted to the Ghana Airport Company Limited.

Furthermore, Mensah outlined plans by the Ashanti Regional Security Council to address the issue of stray cattle, ensuring that measures are taken to safeguard newly planted trees in the city from destruction.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that the  Kumasi International Airport will be renamed Nana Agyeman Prempeh I International Airport.

He announced this on Tuesday, February 27 when delivering the State of the Nation address.

He said “I have one more scheduled date with the House, when I would be here to give an accounting of my time in office. By that time, my successor would have been elected, and we would be getting ready for the swearing-in ceremony. The elections will be held peacefully, and the candidate with the credibility to take us on to a higher level will win. Let me wish all of us well in the elections on 7th December.”

“Before then, there a number of important tasks lie ahead of us, one of which will be commissioning the Nana Agyeman Prempeh I International Airport in  Kumasi, and naming the recently commissioned airport in  Tamale the Yakubu Tali International Airport.”
