Richard Kumadoe, the brain behind the Independent Elections Security and Compliance Watchers, has urged the government to grant autonomy to security agencies for recruitment processes.

Expressing his apprehension, Mr Kumadoe highlighted the unsettling trend of recruitment within Ghana’s security institutions, notably the police and national security service.

During an interview on the Ama Ghana Morning Show with Nana Kwabena Ampratwum, Mr Kumadoe denounced the current practice of protocol recruitment, labeling it a derision of Ghana’s democratic values and security administration.

He voiced concerns over the lack of transparency in recruitment announcements, noting that public attention is often drawn only to the graduation of trainees, while the initial recruitment process remains obscured.

Mr Kumadoe’s frustration is palpable as he criticized the competence of recruits, lamenting their inadequate training and knowledge.

He emphasized the prevailing trend where individuals aspire to join the security services merely as a fashion statement, without genuine dedication to the profession.
